Kraft It Up - January

Given that its in my top three favourite challenge blogs, it wasn't hard for me to fall in love with the current challenge over at Kraft It Up! Along with a fabulous sketch from PageMaps, there were three other criteria .. to use a summer themed photo, washi tape and a number.

1st day of the season

I had so much fun playing with the Fancy Pants Memories Captured Collection. I confess that of late I have fallen madly, passionately back in love with Fancy Pants! As a result of wanting to really work (aka play) with the paper range, there is a lot less mixed media on this page than usual. I love it!

I also had several more photos I wanted to use. In fact I could have created a double page layout but really didn't feel so inclined LOL. Instead I created a lift up flap to include the extra photos and to enable me to expand on my journaling.

You might be wondering why I didn't use these adorable photos of Bear on the front of my layout. I mean they're so cute, why hide them? Right? Thing is the theme of my page was about the beach not Bear. Plus, one of the photos of Bear in particular is so gorgeous that it deserves to be scrapped on its own.

I had a lot of fun choosing my background for this page too. I recently read a post on FaceBook regarding what scrappers are doing with their unused stashes of, mostly coloured, cardstock. Well I confess, I have unused stashes of just about everything LOL! In particular, do you remember the days when Core'dinations cardstock was first released? Then not long after (from memory) a few manufacturers/designers jumped on the bandwagon and co-released Core'dinations cardstock to match their own collections?

Well anyways, to cut a long story short LOL, okay not really, I was looking for a textured kraft cardstock base that wasn't Swiss dots. I went rummaging through my cardstock stash and found the perfect background in the Core'dinations/Jenni Bowlin Vintage Collection! Its positively ancient. Or at least that's how it feels. Anyways I thought there may have been a kraft coloured cardstock in the, yes I confess, unopened, pack and although there wasn't, when I by chance saw the reverse of a few sheets I was beyond thrilled! For the most part they were kraft coloured. Totally cool! I can probably rescue at least half a dozen or so sheets of cardstock from the pack, all of which are kraft coloured on the reverse. Plus you get this awesome de-embossed (?) texture. Like I said LOL "totally cool"!

Anyways, if you'd like to give the current Kraft It Up challenge a go, you can find all the details HERE. Good luck!!!   :)

PS: Here's a copy of the gorgeous PageMaps sketch ..
