UFPs with D-lish Scraps

Back in 2011 at ScrapChat I started a weekly challenge journal based on the theme "favourites". I think I got about halfway through the year before I started to fall further and further behind and eventually threw in the towel. LOL I think we can all relate to those sorts of projects yes?! So anyways I found the journal the other day when I was organising my albums and I decided I was going to finish it this year. Coincidentally, I'm participating in the One Little Word project with Ali Edwards for the first time this year and my chosen word is DO, so it kind of seemed appropriate that as I've been mulling over my OLW in my head, I came across an unfinished project (UFP) and my first thought was to do something about finishing it!!

The journal is not quite 8.5x11" and using nothing but old patterned papers from my stash (which desperately needs downsizing) and products from D-lish Scraps I'm delighted to share two new pages for my 2011 (& 2014 LOL!) favourites journal ..

I do
favourite piece of jewellery

The D-lish Scraps products I've used on this page include the Just Add Paper Kit All That Glitters and some white Gardenias which I sprayed with Glimmer Mist. Gotta love the Just Add Paper Kits!

Seasons
favourite season (of course I couldn't choose just one LOL)

I loved putting this layout together because I just grabbed various bags of embellishments from my D-lish Scraps stash and had fun embellishing the small vellum bags to suit each of the seasons.

The D-lish Scraps products I've used include .. Washi Tape, clear Motex Tape, white PVC Doilies, small Vellum Bags, Memory Maze Chipboard (Rows of Birds), coffee Hand Dyed Muslin, Bitty Blooms in various colours, Freckled Fawn Wood Chips (Hearts), Freckled Fawn Paper Clips (Silver Arrows), Journal Its by Star (Kraft Word Tickets), various Flag & Flair Packs, and Wood Veneer Flowers.

Stay tuned for more 2014 Favourites Journal pages coming soon!   :)

PS: To help me kickstart scrapping in an 8.5x11" format again, I used some PageMaps sketches from January 2013. If you like working with sketches and haven't yet checked out PageMaps what are you waiting for LOL?!?!!!   ;)

What do flowers, songs, and creations have in common?

They are all weekly favourite challenges over at ScrapChat.

September has been a difficult month. Coming to the realisation that it was time to let Max go. Accepting that realisation. Acting upon it. Difficult times. There have been countless days when I have quite simply not known what to do, where to turn. Days of having to drag myself out of bed when all I've wanted to do is stay under the covers with Max, and, later, with his blanket. But for what purpose? When he was gone, what was I going to do when I got out of bed? My life revolved around him.

I am thankful for that time spent in hospital when I learned how to make cards as occupational therapy. I am thankful for all those months spent in therapy learning about mindfulness and how to implement it in my daily life. Without either of these tools I think I would have succumbed, in the end, to the urge to never get out of bed again. I did get out of bed and, although without inspiration, I had a long list of 'favourite' challenges which were overdue. Those challenges, together with a frenzy of card making for a girlfriend have got me to today.

Not every page has to be a 'work of art' ...

Sometimes if we want to get those memories preserved and those photographs scrapped we just need to pick up the pace a little and keep things simple. I still haven't finished the first album I started seven (?) years ago and I'm getting to the stage where I'd really like to! I still haven't scrapped our overseas holidays photos from 1995 and I'd really like to before the 20 year anniversary of that trip comes around. LOL it's the same with our wedding album for which we paid the professional photographer an exorbitant amount for our negatives (even though I wasn't a scrapper at the time!!!)!!

I'm pretty sure most of us have the same dilemma ... trying to play catch up on the past as well as keeping current with the present. At the moment I'm trying to catch up with my Weekly Favourites Challenge Journal at ScrapChat. It was so much more manageable when I was completing those pages one a week. But right now I feel a little like I'm chasing my tail. Sure I've made some progress ... this past week I've completed another three pages, but then tomorrow another challenge will be posted ... groan! LOL I no complain ... not really ... I just wish for time to stand still until I'm up to date!!

Anyways, so in the spirit of simply wanting to get some pages for my Journal done I've taken the simple approach and literally kept these pages simple! They've come together so much easier and as I've focused more on the journaling I'm pretty happy that although not 'works of art' (LOL) they do what I want and need them to do ... tell a story.

Without further ado I give you ...

8.5x11 or thereabouts

As some of you would know, I'm working on a weekly challenges journal this year at ScrapChat based around our favourites of varying things. Right now I am sooooooo far behind in these challenges it's not funny. At all. But when the Mac was out of action I figured I'd have a go at playing catch up. Amongst (many) other things I completed three of the challenges (favourite ... photo, piece of clothing and city). Catching up completely started to feel within my grasp LOL. That was until Kylie (heh K!) put up two weeks' challenges in one hit. Plus another one this week! Noice one K!!! LOL!!!

Anyways the pages in the Visual Arts Diary I am using for my challenge journal are kind of similar in size to an 8.5x11 layout. So that's how I've decided to 'label' them. Being a 12x12 scrapper I've found it challenging and interesting working in an 8.5x11 format. I must confess though, it's growing on me. These are the three pages I have recently completed ...

Once were pink
(Week 20 - favourite piece of clothing)
products used:
Stampin' Up! Whisper White cardstock; Doodlebug Designs Inc crushed velvet Bubblegum cardstock; patterned paper - something seriously ancient from my stash (no LOL, that's not a brand!!); American Crafts Thickers - Delight, Fabric, Black; lilybeedesign ABC stickers; Queen & Co brads; dies - Sizzix Boss-O alphas, Sizzix Arrows #2, Big Shot Thick Cuts Circles; recycled flannelette fabric and buttons from my pjs; upcycled pink chenille; upcycled vintage shipping tags and cotton string; black Zig Writer; black embroidery cotton and sewing machine thread

Tranquil
(Week 18 - favourite photo)
products used:
Bazzill Swiss Dots cardstock; patterned paper - Making Memories and Chatterbox; American Crafts Thickers - Gift Box and Shoe Box both in raw chipboard; Sassafras Lass chipboard sticker shapes - Woody Pal Around; Martha Stewart border punch; washi tape; upcycled vintage shipping tag and cotton string; Stampin' Up! Crumb Cake classic stampin' pad; Chocolate Zig Writer;

Key West
(Week 28 - favourite city)

Bazzill cardstock; American Crafts Thickers - Daiquiri, Foam, White; Prima Lisle Multi flowers; Queen & Co brads; Paper Raffia in Pistachio and White; Green Tara White paper string; white German Scraps; Kaisercolour White acrylic paint; Black and Denim Zig Writers

What's next? There are a multitude of challenges 'out there' which I'd love to give a go. I'm still waaaay behind in my weekly favourites challenge journal. I owe at least two people CJ pages. I had planned to make some Christmas cards 'for the troops'. Sigh (LOL) ... what's a girl to do? I think I'll go with some more weekly favourites challenges.  Perhaps catch up a little more ... maybe ...

I could be indecisive

... but then I'm really not sure.  Ha ha.  Seriously though I'm having a really hard time with this Weekly Favourites Challenge Journal over at ScrapChat.  Every week a new challenge goes up and I think to myself "oh this will be a cinch" but then when it comes to the crunch and I actually need to choose a favourite 'something' well, its not so easy.  Trust me LOL, I'm not losing sleep over this ... much.

I've had a little catching up to do with my Journal and have in the last few days covered the past few weeks' topics ... favourite TV show, favourite piece of advice, and favourite sport.  Now do you see my problem??  How do I choose my favourite TV show?  Do I go down my antiques/collectibles passion road with the various reality TV style antiques shows; or the entertaining comedy/humour based programmes which make me laugh; the dramas in which my heart and soul are invested; or the social commentary documentaries I love and adore on SBS?  Just as well we don't have Foxtel!!  Worst still, a piece of advice?  Especially when there are so many wise, insightful men and women in the world who have said, and are saying, so many wonderfully sage things.  When it came to my favourite sport I wondered if I could just leave a page in my journal blank LOL!  Not that I don't love sport.  I did, once.  In fact I used to play and watch an awful lot of it, but times have changed.  After 15 years or so of playing netball and various other sports such as hockey, and 20 or so years of going to what was the VFL (now the AFL) week in, week out to see my beloved Magpies 'fight' it out on the field, my life now is fairly devoid of sport.  I no longer play it, I'm no longer a spectator and, I can scarce believe, I no longer pour over every weekend paper to read all the stats and news of all the games.  What to do, what to do?  LOL!!

In the end it came down to this ...
  • If I could watch only one TV show a week what would it be?
  • Re the favourite piece of advice, keep it simple, easy to remember, and essential!
  • Sport?  Use the quintessential coin toss.  Heads netball, tails Aussie Rules.
Pretty easy in the end (LOL she says) ...

family is everything
(Week 15 - Favourite TV show)
products used include black cardstock, Tattered Angels Gold Glimmer Mist, Stampin' Up! Barely Banana cardstock, Cuttlebug Red Tag Sale alpha dies, and Stampin' Up! round tab punch
note: this page opens out to show photos of the family members and a lot of journaling in the form of a written synopsis of the 'story so far'

Smart Dude
(Week 16 - Favourite piece of advice)
products used include Stampin' Up! Whisper White and Riding Hood Red cardstock, Cuttlebug Harlequin die, Carolees Creations Adornit tiny alphas, recycled cotton thread, red dot Washi tape, black marker, and font - 2Peas Barefoot Professor
note: I know they're hopelessly (?) outdated but I'm loving making my own banners plus how cool is the tatty old recycled cotton thread I 'upcycled'?!

roolz
(Week 17 - Favourite sport)
products used include Bazzill cardstock, Stampin' Up! Whisper White cardstock, American Craft Thickers Daiquiri black foam, Stampin' Up! large oval punch, Cuttlebug dies - arrows and Concentric Stars
note: again, lots of journaling because I figure someone one day might be interested in knowing why I chose this as my favourite sport

So that's that.  Stay tuned for more weekly favourites ... one day ... maybe ... perhaps.

I'm dreaming of a ...

new printer.  Okay so I'm no Bing Crosby and just as I'll never be able to 'croon' like he did, I'm just as likely to never acquire this printer I'm dreaming about.  But heh there's no reason I can't share right?  Plus who knows what's around the corner?

This is the printer of which (my) dreams are made of ... the Epson Stylus Photo R2880 ...

find all its specs HERE

I've been dreaming of this printer (well actually one a little better but which wasn't released here) for nigh on two years and I wish now I had bought it whilst I had the opportunity.  Now every penny is squirrelled away for things for our new home.  [For example, it's kind of hard to justify buying this swish-o new printer when for the same price we could get a half decent BBQ (there is only two of us so it doesn't have to be huge) and a nice outdoor setting.]  But if I had bought it before we moved I had nowhere to set it up and what would have been the point of it sitting in its box for a good portion of its warranty period?  Oh I know ... "I'd have it now" (LOL) she exclaims with a little foot stomping for good measure.  Sigh ...

Anyway so that's my favourite printer (I've been an Epson Stylus Photo printer girl all my printing life LOL) and here are a few more of my favourites to share ...
... colour (week 13)
nature
products used include: Stampin' Up! Kraft cardstock; pure black Zig Writer; American Crafts Thickers, giftbox, raw chipboard; Making Memories metallic staples; kraft Washi tape; and Fundamentals Cardmaking Accents (chipboard)

... sweet/lolly (week 14)
these 'will do' {LOL}
products used include: Stampin' Up Very Vanilla cardstock; Stampin' Up punches 2 3/8 scallop circle, scallop circle, 1 3/4 circle, 1 3/8 circle, scallop trim border; Websters Pages netting (used to hand make flower); Christina Re pearl brad; pure black Zig Writer; recycled gift bag paper; Chatterbox artsy.licious Splendid Ribbon, chocolate; American Craft Thickers, giggles, foam, cream; Making Memories Paperie double-sided patterned paper - Toile Mocha (reverse) and Floral Mocha (including reverse)

An enormous thank you to my friend Kylie for continuing to post these Weekly Favourites Challenges at ScrapChat ... they're just about the only thing keeping me going at the moment.  So thanks K!

PS:  GB would like to say re the Epson printer of which my dreams are made ... "tell her she's dreamin'!" ha ha ha ...

So, did March send me mad?

As you know at the beginning of this month I set myself a list of scrapping 'to dos'.  For some of you the load might have looked fairly light on, but for this oft slow, sometimes (?) known to procrastinate, scrapper, the list was fairly ambitious.  So how did I go?  Did my March to do list send me completely mad???
  • finish the cover of my Favourites Journal (I started that a few days ago) - check!
  • February's colour challenge at ScrapChat (everything is on my desk waiting to go) - check!
  • Manda's now overdue CJ page (theme ... handmade) - check!
  • week #8 (favourite room) for my Favourites Journal - check!
Plus ...
  • weeks #9 through to #12 inclusive for my 2011 Weekly Favourites Journal
    • week # 9 - check!
    • week #10 - check!
    • week #11 - check!
    • week #12
  • the ScrapChat colour challenge
  • the ScrapChat sketch challenge - layout
  • the ScrapChat sketch challenge - card - check!
  • 'Pud's' CJ page (theme ... five)
  • 527 stick pins for a swap (okay so I exaggerate 'just a little' LOL) - check!
Plus ... three special projects, two of which I've had simmering on the back burner of my mind for ages now (one for well over a year [I know!] and the other since before September last year) ...
  • project one (mini albums for GB) - check!
  • project two (secret for someone so can't say what ... ssh!!)
  • project three (secret for someone so can't say what ... ssh!!)
Okay so I may not have quite got there, but given everything that's happened this month, I don't think I've put in a bad effort; and I haven't gone completely mad!!
I'm not planning to take on any further challenges in April.  I want to have a "check!" beside all of the above items as soon as possible.  To that end I have completed week #12's Weekly Favourites Journal Challenge which was to scrap the favourite time of your life.  This one needed a double spread in my journal as I couldn't settle on just the one time in my life and even then I had to cull my photos LOL!  I used the fabulously delicious new For the Record range from Echo Park.  I felt like such a 'grown up' scrapping with this range and love, love, love it.  I can't wait to continue working with it.

Oh happy days

other products used include Making Memories felt and tiny alphas, chipboard and JAC paper, Prima Sprite flowers (anyone else remember these?!), Making Memories and Queen & Co brads, Stampin' Up! scallop trim border punch, Big Shot Pro die Square Ribbon and Sizzix Bigz die Vine w/Leaves

Because I haven't been scrapping much lately (well not traditional 12x12 layouts anyways), and in fact my 2011 Weekly Favourites Journal has pretty much been 'it', I decided to approach this journal entry as a 'real' layout and did I have fun.  Distressing, sewing, journaling, die-cutting, making my own chipboard flourishes with some raw chipboard, JAC paper and patterned paper.  It felt good to approach this journal entry more 'seriously' (perhaps it was the 'grown up' Echo Park patterned paper LOL?!) and it has inspired me to continue creating.  What more could one ask for?

PS:  Next up is the ScrapChat March colour challenge ... the colours are divine!  Stay tuned ...

More favourites

When my world is falling apart, I find myself unable to sit inactive staring into space or to curl up under my doonah and let the days merge into one.  Not because of any sense of fighting spirit but because its in the quiet the demons are at their loudest.  However as my world continues to darken, finding the motivation to do something, anything, is becoming increasingly difficult.  Thank god for scrapbooking as a form of occupational therapy.

Being physically unable to do many 'domestic' things, and those things I am still able to do, and do do, not needing to be done on a daily basis, rules out consuming my time with domestic goddess tasks.  Not being independently mobile sees me at home most of the time, so I can't pop out for a few hours to go down to the local shops or visit a friend.  Speaking of friends, I can't bring myself to have contact with them for fear of the bubbling turmoil of desperation in the pit of my stomach spewing forth.  I so desperately need to keep it contained.

As it is, Magoo now needs constant company.  Last Saturday his rear, right leg 'gave in' on him (so to speak) and he is now struggling with his walking.  When he falls down, he sometimes can't get up.  So he needs me here with him.  He's very sad too.  Which is heart-breaking, but I understand the need for the silent company of someone who loves you when you feel sad.  I understand he needs more cuddles than usual at the moment.  I'm willingly giving them to him.  We're also taking him to the vet later this morning to discuss this latest development in his health.  Deep in our hearts GB and I know what will be happening very soon but right now are holding on to the slimmest, desperate sliver of hope that our vet is able to do something to help, even though she told GB this past weekend on the phone that there is nothing more she can do.  We're not ready to let go of Magoo.  We acknowledge that we'll never be ready to say good bye.  But we know we need to do the right thing for him, so at today's appointment we'll be discussing quality of life issues.  He will be coming home with us though.   Today is not the day.

So whilst Magoo is asleep in his bed by my side in my studio, I am 'making' myself scrap.  It passes the time of day.  It occupies my time.  I may not be creating anything particularly spectacular and, in fact, are holding off from scrapping special photos because I really don't want to ruin them if you know what I mean.  But I can potter.  The 2011 Weekly Favourites Challenge at ScrapChat is a good form of pottering, as is one of the 'special projects' I was hoping to complete this month.

Speaking of the 2011 Weekly Favourites Challenge here are my weeks 10 and 11.  I hope they speak for themselves because, quite frankly, I've run out of words ...

Week 10 ... favourite scrapping supply

die-cutting equipment used: Big Shot Pro and Big Shot

More weekly favourites

The themes for weeks eight and nine of the 2011 Weekly Favourites Journal Challenge at ScrapChat really threw me.  Week eight's challenge was to scrap your favourite room.  Week nine's challenge was to scrap your favourite time waster.  Uh-oh.

Week 8 - Favourite Room

My favourite room should have been a cinch.  Really.  We've only been living in our newly built home for a little over six months.  Honestly, I have favourite rooms in our new house ... as you would hope!  In fact my favourite room in the house is our lounge room (as opposed to the open plan 'living room').  It is a beautiful room which reminds us a little of our old period home in Brunswick, perhaps because we have a gas 'fire-log' heater in the lounge and at Brunswick we had open fireplaces?  Maybe because it is 'our' room.  LOL that sound so strange yes?  The whole house is 'our' house but this room has just two chairs ... gorgeous leather, modern looking recliners ... a very large, vintage Tibetan drum for a coffee table, an enormous red feather African headdress hanging above the 'fire', a Buddha wall hanging from Bhutan, an old children's rocking chair from when GB was a toddler, antique cabinets from China, and more.  Oh and last but not least, this room has one of my gorgeous Yhi ceiling pendants by Brian Steendyk.  Seriously this room is stunning.  It is a tranquil room.  Everyone who has ever relaxed in one of the recliners in that room has loved it.  I love it.  The only problem was that I couldn't photograph it because right now all those beautiful things are gone, the room is empty.  Without all those 'things' its lost its tranquility, its soul I guess you could say.  'Come again' I hear you say, 'empty?'.

Several weeks ago when Melbourne had some serious freak storms come through, our house was hit pretty bad on the west side.  Although a new build, as a result of the combined ferocity of the winds and the angle at which the rain hit our house, we flooded.  Compared to the loss of life, and damage and destruction mother nature is leaving in her wake wherever she stomps her feet, we are blessed.  We are still in our home.  We still have our roof.  We are safe.  We are simply waiting for our flooring, plasterboard, light fittings, etc to be replaced.

So if I couldn't scrap my favourite room what could I scrap?  Then I remembered our laundry at our old home in Brunswick, and how that laundry was the 'bane' of my life for a good 15 years or more.  Which caused me to stop and think about just how much I love our new laundry.  Which prompted me to stop and remember how excited I was every time we came out to the new house during construction and how I would stand in what would become the laundry and just wordlessly turn around in delight picturing what was going to be my 'dream' laundry.  What a relief ... I had a new favourite room to scrap.  But again I had no photos and the current state of the laundry was really not something I wanted to share.  You know the saying along the lines of 'not airing your dirty laundry in public' LOL?!  Well needless to say I was not going to share the current state of our laundry!  But I had photos of our old laundry from the day we locked up our home in Brunswick for the final time.  I also had the elevation plans of my new laundry.  Add the two together with some crisp, white fabric to represent bleached and starched ironing and I had a page in my Journal for week eight ...

BTW I didn't really use many products when creating this page but must mention the fabulous arrows are a Sizzix die, Arrows #2, and the perfect sized hearts are from the Stampin' Up Heart to Heart punch.

Week 9 - Favourite Time Waster

Tell me ... what does someone who almost compulsively multi-tasks every minute of their day do to waste time?  Let me tell you ... nothing!!!!!!!!!  I cannot abide wasting time.  If other people want to do it that's their choice.  But for me, wasting time goes against everything I try to do to be as efficient as I possibly can.  I don't waste time!  Everything I do, LOL even relaxing, has a purpose ie, relaxing!!  This was not a challenge LOL this was seriously big time 'freak Alz out bait'!!!!  Time spent online has a purpose ... whether that be shopping, researching, social networking, or whatever!  Time spent scrapping is, for me, a version of occupational therapy.  Time spent watching TV is relaxing, entertaining, informative.  The only thing I could think of that 'some' might possibly consider wasting time was colouring.  Doodling.  Drawing.  'Some' might think that a 42 year old sitting down and colouring when her laundry is in such a state she can't photograph it to share (LOL) is wasting her time.  I disagree.  For me, colouring, doodling and drawing are types of occupational therapy.  Finally, I had an 'angle' from which to approach week nine's challenge.  Colouring, doodling, drawing ... occupational therapy?  Call it what you want ...

Products used include "The Crafter's Workshop Template" (Daisy Cluster), Sizzix/Tim Holtz Paper Rosette die, Sizzix Dots & Scallops die, Stampin' Up! scallop circle punch, Carolee's Creations AdornIt Sleek White Alphas, and various colouring pencils and pens.  Oh and a brad (LOL).

The background was originally a piece of pale blue 12x12 Bazzill which was fairly marked and faded in places.  Using the leftovers of a spray mist I had made up, and the TCW template I created a faint patterned background on the cardstock.  After diligently drawing around all the outlined daisies, I coloured them in with various coloured pencils I borrowed from a girlfriend (I was away at a retreat).  I used an aqua brush to soften the colouring lines and I used a white pen to add highlights.  Finally I coloured the external border of the template in black and again used an aqua brush to soften the colouring lines.  Did creating my own background with this technique take a lot of time?  Yes!!!  Did some of the girls on the retreat think I had completely lost the plot?  Yes.  But it was enjoyable and relaxing, and something I could stop and come back to.  And I created it at a time when I was feeling a little anxious, out of my depth and like a fish out of water.  So it served a purpose ... it gave me something to do (an occupation) and it helped me to relax (therapy).

Oh and did I mention that taking the time out to sit down and colour like we did when we were children, is fun???

We interrupt this broadcast to bring you a technical hitch ... LOL ... please excuse me whilst I test something with this post ... stay tuned ... BRB ... it worked!!!!!

2011 Weekly Favourites Journal

I have finally covered the journal I am using for my weekly favourites challenge at ScrapChat.  I'm both relieved and thrilled.  Relieved because I'm not a huge fan of unfinished projects lying around, and this was one.  (Okay I confess, one of about 73!!!)  At the same time I'm not the type of scrapper who can just 'rush' something.  I wanted the cover of my journal to have a certain 'look'.  I wanted it to represent everything about what it was and then some.  Plus I'd never, ever covered a journal before.  Well not of this variety anyways.

For this year long challenge I've used a Winsor & Newton Visual Arts Diary ... you know the ones with a kind of shiny, but not smooth, textured surface.  I knew I didn't want to take the binding apart because personally that just doesn't work for me.  I knew what I wanted to cover the journal with, but had no idea what types of adhesives would work best.  I knew I wanted to add texture.  I had a vague idea of a 'title', but when I say vague I really do mean vague.  So, frustratingly (because I have just wanted to get it done and move on LOL) my thoughts for the cover of my journal have been simmering on the back burner in my mind.  And then inspiration struck in the form of a journal GB received from Carers Victoria ...

Isn't this just about the coolest journal ever?  I mean seriously?  Teal is my favourite colour at the moment so it instantly grabbed my attention.  Then the series of words down the left margin jumped out at me.  It was brilliant.  I loved it!  Suddenly I knew exactly how I wanted my journal cover to look ...

Because I love texture and textiles (I'm a real 'touchy feely' kinda gal LOL) my journal had to be covered with lots of texture.  So I chose a stunning SEI flocked paper, and added some truly sublime Chatterbox velvet ribbon from their artsylicious range, and Maya Road pom pom trim (possibly my favourite trim of all time).  I continued the texture with foam.  American Craft Thickers in foam.  Did I mention foam?  Oh how I love foam.  I've no idea what it is about the texture of foam; maybe its soft, squishiness (?); but I love it.  Using the Carers Victoria journal for inspiration I added some words on the left margin and then the year in the bottom right hand corner.  A very simple, graphic-like design, but one which speaks volumes and I love it!!  Thanks Carers Victoria for the inspiration ...

American Craft Thickers used include: daiquiri, giggles, latte and rockabye

Favourite ... place I've lived

Well I'm only a week behind in my 2011 Favourites Journal so I'm pretty happy with myself right about now.  Week #8's topic is your favourite room.  I know exactly what I'm going to do for that one, with a little bit of a 'spin' on it.  So to speak LOL (don't worry all will be revealed!).  I just need to have a few photos printed which GB is hoping to do after work for me today.  (Thanks GB.)

Meanwhile hmmm ... the favourite place I've lived (week 7)?  So many places, although not as many as most; so many memories; how do you choose?  It was a tough decision.  In the end it was a sad decision because we ended up selling my 'favourite'.  No doubt in the future our new home will become an equal if not more of a favourite.  For the time being though I think my favourite place to live will be wherever GB and Magoo are because home is where your heart is and my heart belongs to them.

Anyways here is my journal entry titled SOLD ...

When creating this journal entry, I printed a pdf copy of the realtor's flyer from when we sold the house.  On top I layered some old photos from GB's childhood which I printed on transparencies.  I also included a photo (again printed on a transparency) of GB and Magoo sitting on the front step the very last time we locked the door and walked away.  A poignant moment.  I made my own "SOLD" sign with Sizzix Serif Essentials alpha dies and then printed lots of words in varying fonts about what the house meant to me (us).  At the top is a pull out sheet of A4 paper on which is printed the list of reasons we loved the location of our home ... a document which was used when marketing our home.  So lots of ephemera at play here.

The various fonts used include: Charlemagne std, Academy Engraved LET, Harrington, Wide Latin, 2Peas Ocean Crossing, Didot, Perpetua Titling MT, Bernard MT Condensed, KinkajuuStewNF, Century Gothic, Desdemona, Jazz LET and Stencil.

Favourite ... preferred above others

The weekly challenges at ScrapChat this year are all about favourites.  Every Friday 'K', formally known as Kylie Abel, but also known to me as Special K and Techno K, puts up a new 'favourite' for us to scrap about.  No-one (obviously LOL!!) has to do any or all of the favourite challenges however I have seen some pretty incredible journals created in past years with other challenge criteria and this year I wanted to create one of those amazingly eclectic journals for myself.

I haven't popped into ScrapChat today to see what this week's favourite challenge is but to be honest, I'm in no immediate hurry as I haven't yet done last week's!  As I'll be sharing my journal entries from week to week on my blog I figured I might as well bring you up to speed with my journal entries so far.
Week 1 ... Favourite hobby

Week 2 ... Favourite celebrity

Week 3 ... Favourite food/dinner

Week 4 ... Favourite childhood toy

Week 5 ... Favourite job

Week 6 ... Favourite personal feature

Week 7 (last week) was something along the lines of your favourite home or place you have lived ... or something ... yep I need to double check what it is before I start doing it LOL, although I do have a fairly good idea of what I want to do.  Week 8 (this week) remains a mystery to me so far.  But stay tuned ...
