Scrap The Girls .. August

Beauty is how you feel inside,
and it reflects in your eyes.
It is not something physical.

Heh peeps!

I've been keeping a secret. I know right?! I'm shocking at keeping secrets LOL! But this one I managed to keep under my hat!!

Some time ago the gorgeous, and oh so talented Marelle Jackman invited me to join the Creative Team over at Scrap The Girls. I was like "wow"!!! I wasn't sure at the time whether I would be able to manage the commitment but in the end I just couldn't resist. I love the challenges put up each month at Scrap The Girls, so said "yes!!!!". Now I'm excited, honoured, and humbled, to be working alongside a fabulous bunch of amazingly talented scrappers!!

So now that we've established all that, what's the challenge this month for August? Its a beautiful inspiration board put together by the incredibly talented Rikki Graziani.

Of course I needed to use the colour palette but in terms of inspiration, I was inspired by the Marrakesh pattern and the feathers. The board screamed peacock feathers to me, and I had some stunning photos of a girlfriend I've been wanting to scrap for a very long time (hi Brooke!). She loves peacock feathers and so once I decided to use those photos, together with the simply stunning chipboard peacock feathers from Imaginarium Designs my layout came together pretty quickly.

The background came about in an interesting way. I had initially used texture paste and embossing powders to create a different layout a little while ago, and really didn't like the effect I was getting. Rather than throwing it out, I sprayed it with white gesso and then had a textured background set aside for future use. I used a large amount of mixed media products to obtain the colours and sparkle and had absolutely no intention of covering the background entirely with the Jillibean Soup Lattice Placemat but when I put it on the layout to figure out where I was going to cut a piece out, it kinda looked like I should use the whole sheet. So I did!

I've used some beautiful embellishments from D-lish Scraps to bring this page together .. purple Sequins, a Flair Button from the lilac monochrome patterns pack, mini 3.5" round Paper Doilies, lilac Rosebuds. a black Tutu Bloom, a black Silk & Organza Heirloom Flower, white Silk & Organza Mini Heirloom Flowers, white Carnations, a Resin Bird, and a pearl centre from a Canvas Bloom I pulled apart for another layout. I never throw those sorts of things out as they're just perfect for tucking in here and there.

Anyways if the inspiration board resonates with you, I hope you'll get scrapping and link up your entry for us all to see. Don't forget you need to use the colours but otherwise however you take inspiration from the board is up to you. Good luck and have fun!!!
