Living the dream .. with Scrap Our Stash

I love doing the washing. I seriously do. Its become my time to do things for me in between loads. Whilst there's a load on I get to read or scrap or whatever. Once upon a time that time was used for housework but not anymore. So I really, really enjoy doing the washing. Today I took advantage of that 'me' time to scrap.

Living the dream

I was inspired to create this layout by the current challenge over at Scrap Our Stash. One of the things I love about the Scrap Our Stash challenges is that not only are you given a challenge criteria, but that the whole purpose of the challenges is to use up your stash. Get out those old products just laying around not being used, and use them. I love that by mixing the older products in with the new, and by using current techniques and trends, those old products just blend on in.

This month's word challenge is the word PHOTOS. You need to use something on your layout starting with each of the letters and no, LOL, things like embellishment for the letter E or photo for the letter P aren't accepted!!!

Because I'm a self-confessed nerd, I love the word challenges. They get me thinking and basically I just love word puzzles. My PHOTOS went something like this ..

P .. Pink Paislee tape (this is seriously old stuff!)
H .. Hearts (less old)
O .. Oval wood veneer frame (new .. I mounted my title on top of it)
T - Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher (a must have)
O .. Old, old, old K&Co Die-Cut Mats (Urban Rhapsody .. that's how old LOL)
S .. Sticker (the word 'journey')

Fancy giving this challenge a go yourself? You can find all the details HERE. Be sure to make note that the due date is the 29th of the month. Oh and keep an eye out for their sketch challenge which goes up mid month, or thereabouts.

Happy scrapping!

  5. Well I for one do NOT love doing the washing - BUT - if by doing it, I could create a layout as BEAUTIFUL as this.... well, I might just change my mind!! Seriously -I LOVE this layout and would love to know how you made the background /base.. how did you make all those connected letters? are they paper? are they glued to the base page, and if so, did you paint over them, and then spray ink on top of them? This curious mind wants to know - LOL!! Thanks for playing along with us at Scrap Our Stash !

    1. Hi Sherri!

Thank you so much for your lovely words. On the off chance you pop by to see if I answered your comment, well I did! Here's my steps for this background ..

      * I sprayed a sheet of chipboard with white gesso so I wouldn't get any warping because I knew I was going to add a lot of wet media to this page
      * the letters were then done with texture paste and a Scrap FX stencil
      * once the texture paste was dry I sprayed and painted on Prima Color Bloom sprays .. I don't always use them as a spray but remove the spray nozzle thing and use my paint brushes
      * I then stamped some images with a Prima stamp and an Archival Ink stamp (this one was Watering Can as I wanted something softer than my usual Jet Black), oh and I always use an Archival Ink when doing this type of background as its water proof and I'm never really sure if I might want to add more wet media
      * then finally I used a small circle template (it might have been a Memory Box one .. LOL I have just a few!) with some Shimmerz Texturez

The rest of course is strategically placed washi and other tape and a couple of layers of very old patterned paper photo mats behind my photo. I say 'strategically' because my stamping wasn't so great and I wanted to cover as much of it as I can. I hope that helps. If you have trouble finding any of the products I've used please let me know and I'll put up some links for you.

Thanks again for the really fabulous comment. You've made my day!

      Cheers .. Alz :)
